Baking

Sunshine and blue skies brought a smile to my face every time I looked out of the window today. Inside, there was baking aplenty and the house smelled divine. Late last night (or possibly very early this morning....) I remembered to mix up the half-sponge for a white loaf so that it could bubble and grow overnight.

The yeast performed it's usual alchemy and so this morning, with a few light kneads and a little shaping, I ended up with a lovely loaf of bread.

It's always so difficult to wait for it to be cool enough to slice! Bread and jam made for a perfect afternoon treat for Titch (the other member of this family - small boy, almost 7, cute).

We also baked some 'Flapjacks with a little lemony flavour' from Jane Cumberbatch's Recipes for Every Day which is my favourite flapjack recipe ever!

We had to blow on them so they didn't burn our mouths as we munched on the citrusy sweet stickiness.

After our treats we had a breath of fresh air, and made one of our last visits to the 'library van'. The village has been served by a weekly (sometimes fortnightly) mobile library for years and I have been visiting with Titch since he was a little boy. We know all the staff and they have such patience with Titch, letting him sit in the driver's seat, showing him where everything is, letting him date stamp the books. Sadly it will soon face the death knell of service cuts being felt in so many areas of our lives in recent times. We shall miss our friendly, reliable library van.

Tomorrow promises a mixture of weather but we have a treat in store with a visit to our local pottery/music/art cafe for a Decopatch session - you may find me standing well back out of the reach of sticky little fingers!

Opening

Not sunflowers yet but daffodils,
because it's February,
and grey and wet and windy,
and Yorkshire.

Hello blogland - how lovely to finally be here.
